Show & Tell: french herb pots and cha wrap up

Today I want to share with you the craft that I made at the Craft and Hobby Association {CHA} show last week. I was invited by the wonderful people at Plaid to be a guest in their booth and give a demonstration. I was incredibly flattered to be asked and it was exciting and nerve-wracking.

For my craft demonstration, I used the Folkart line of paints and stencils to make these herb pots. Did I mention they video taped me? I stammered my way through the taping but oh my… I had to go back later and fix all my shaky paint lines.

Herb Post CHAI started with Dollar Store pots. These may look familiar because I actually made something very similar on my blog last year. You can see that version here. A couple coats of Folkart paint covered up the original Dollar Store pot in no time. I used Coastal Blue for the pot and a mixture of metallic paints for the rim.

The stencil is a peel and stick stencil. You peel it off the plastic backing and stick it to your surface. It works wonderfully and won’t budge until you’re ready to peel it off. The best part – you rinse it off and you can use them over and over again.

Once all the paint is dry, you spray your pot with Folkart Pearlcote Pearl Glaze to give it a pearl finish. As an option you can follow that up with a clear glossy coat of spray finish.

And here they are. I made a set of three and they’re just waiting for me to go get herbs to plant in them.

CHA 2013-003Here’s where I gave my demonstration {top right} and that’s me on the Special Guest board {eeep} along with some other bloggers you may be familiar with. And there I am {bottom right} with the wonderful Jill from Plaid and “Glossy”. One of Plaid’s most popular and famous products is Mod Podge, so it was a thrill to meet “Glossy”.

CHA 2013After the demonstration {phew}, I cruised the show floor. I only had one day to spend at CHA so I didn’t get to fully experience the show like some of the other bloggers. It really would take all four days to even make an attempt to see everything. But here are some things that caught my eye. I was drawn to the bright and cheery colors, pretty textures and of course, crafts that I enjoy creating; paper, fabric, paint etc.

CHA 2013-001The displays were amazing and so overflowing with creativity.

CHA 2013-002This is the product that I’m really excited about. It’s coming out sometime this year. It’s from Mod Podge and is called Mod Melts. The sticks are a special substance {not glue} and fit in a glue gun. You squeeze the melted product into a silicone mold and once it hardens, you can embellish it or paint it. There are several molds and I can’t wait to play with these. You can find more information about this product here.

I just want to really give a shout out to Plaid for recognizing regular people like me who love to make things and providing me with the opportunity to do something I would normally never have the chance to do. It was so fun sharing my herb pots at CHA and taking in all the sights, products and inspiration at the show.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.
